Welcome back! It's great to see you!
Although we are all still cautious about our approach to travel, we can still take time to reminisce, dream...even plan. Keeping that in mind, the pandemic is forcing us to rethink our leisure time but, it will not stop us forever. In fact, there are some fantastic deals that are beginning to come out in promotions for a few months from now when people go back to the delight and beauty of the world! When you are ready to make a plan again, I am here for you so give me a call! I'll be happy to share with you all I know and we can put together the finer things you will not want to miss when you go. I look forward to talking with you and helping you make that dream a reality! Cheers!
Travel can be a great way to reconnect
Absolutely, travel can be a great way to reconnect and bring families back together after weeks of panic and uncertainty. Here are four ways that travel can rejuvenate family dynamics and help you to re-explore the world. Travel is a brilliant way to celebrate family milestones. Whether it’s a birthday, anniversary, graduation, wedding, retirement, family reunion, or any number of special celebrations, traveling outside of your norm can help provide meaningful memories that will stick with you forever. Reignites Family Friendships Everyone is always busy. It’s hard for families both near and far to make time to see each other and before you know it, you can sometimes realize years have passed! When families travel together their relationships are strengthened and deepened. By disconnecting from routine and indulging in new experiences, memories are made that will be taken many decades into the future, often outliving some of the older generations. Makes Family into Teammates There will come a time during any journey or excursion where you and your family may find yourselves in new and unfamiliar environments and situations. These are the moments where the family dynamic can shift from friends into teammates. Simple scenarios like finding your way around an unfamiliar big city, navigating a new public transport system or figuring out a restaurant menu in a foreign language, brings family members together and has them working like teammates. The Importance of Time Unlike at home, where there are both mental and physical distractions to keep us preoccupied, traveling makes it essential to truly live in the moment. This makes it easier for family members to catch up and spend quality time with one another. While vacations might seem to fly by, time really does slow down making those special moments string together into days that won’t be forgotten. There’s truly no better feeling than getting to explore new destinations with the ones you love. Whether it’s your biological family, or the people you choose to call family, travel can help bring these relationships closer together. While it most definitely is not the time to travel right now, now is a perfect time to start daydreaming and planning your next big vacation. Many of us are having to adjust our businesses, our budgets, our schedules -- and for many of us, that might include huge changes to vacations, destination weddings, honeymoons, reunions, and other getaways we have been looking forward to for months!
I want to say: I am sincerely sorry for the upheavals. I am feeling them, too. I also want to say: there is hope, and so much great to look forward to. There will be a time when this will all be resolved and the fear will lift. While we are doing our part to keep ourselves and our community healthy -- practicing social distancing, being conscientious about washing our hands, staying home, not touching our faces-- we can also experience the excitement and joy of making future plans. Four quick things to know about travel in the coming months:
Right now, it is a season of stillness, of staying close, of appreciating all that we have right in our own homes. It is in our best interests to accept this temporary shift. We have a unique opportunity to be of service to one another in ways we maybe haven't imagined before. And just imagine how incredible it will feel, when the time is right, to stretch our wings and set off across oceans and mountains and miles, and make the whole wide world our home again. I wish you all my best for health, healing, happiness and hope for you and your loved ones in the coming weeks and months. If you have any questions about your travel plans, please don't hesitate to reach out. Stay strong and find your peace. CHEERS! Debbie This week we are talking about the Coronavirus, also now known as COVID-19. We have loaded this blog post with links to all the resources you are looking for. IN ONE PLACE! Have you noticed? It is all over the news! People getting sick, elderly dying, weakend and suppressed immune systems at risk. Flashing headlines that grab your attention and perhaps strike fear in even the strongest of people who run from drama. Is this for real? What does this mean for me? What about our trip? Do I cancel? With all of the fear being perpetuated by the media, it is getting harder and harder, and more confusing even to get accurate information. In any event, or epidemic, the most important thing we can do is research and be well informed by the source. Thanks to our wonderful media online and on all the broadcast Airwaves, we are quick to presume that “what you see is what you get” and resort to trusting whatever source it is that we are reading or listening to at the moment. It is our recommendation at Palmer Preferred Travel, that you start at the very beginning. Pay little or no attention to the fear-filled, clickbait posts in social media and those dramatic newsreels, designed to pull you in to a specific Broadcast Network so they can keep their ratings up! As in any situation, you must do what is best for you. Absolutely, follow the recommended regimen for keeping germs at bay. Wash your hands and sing the alphabet, or whatever song strikes your fancy, and is of the appropriate time length (20-30 seconds). Keep sanitizing wipes or gel with you, and ALWAYS COVER YOUR COUGH! Germs are spread most frequently by sneezing and coughing and resist putting your fingers in your mouth or eyes as germs transfer from hand to face. When we speak of the source, we are referring to the World Health Organization, the Centers for Disease Control and, your local state community health organizations. With regards to your travel, we always recommend Travel Insurance. Cancel For Any Reason is always your best bet and can give you peace of mind when the rest of the world is in panic! Check with your Travel Advisor as to the specifics. The rules and regulations for when and how to purchase travel insurance are constantly being updated and changed with regards to the Coronavirus. It is important not to hesitate, “Should I purchase now or hope for the best?” Delaying your decision to purchase could be the difference in even getting coverage at all! If you are wondering about travel arrangements that you have already purchased, check with your travel agent or specific airline and destination providers. We know of a few updates but all are subject to change as the situation changes. Here are some links. Click the image below to view their policies for COVID-19.
RecreationThe sun, sand and sea are the main attractions, with lounging on the beach and watersports the main reason most people visit the Virgin Islands. Visitors will find gorgeous beaches on all three islands. Each has numerous dive operators and day-sail boats to take visitors to an offshore cay for a look at the undersea world by scuba-diving or snorkeling. Fishing charters take you out in hopes of catching the big one. When you tire of the beach and watersports, if that's possible, you'll find plenty of other things to do. Most hotels have tennis courts, St. Thomas and St. Croix sport golf courses, and St. John is the hiking capital of the Caribbean. What should I wear?Casual summer clothing is appropriate all year, but it's considered rude to go shirtless in town. Wearing a swimsuit in town without a coverup is frowned upon. Shorts are acceptable almost everywhere, although you'll feel underdressed in a nice restaurant for dinner. Restaurants that require men to wear jackets at dinner are very rare—take a jacket only if you are planning to dine in an exclusive resort restaurant. Others often require collared shirts. If you're there on business, pants and shirts suffice for men, but if you're heading to court or government offices, a suit is best. For women, a dress, skirt or pants and a neat blouse work, unless you're on legal or government business. In that case, a suit is fine. Safety First...The U.S. Virgin Islands has stepped up efforts to combat crime. The islands are generally safe and present no more danger than other Caribbean destinations. But you should exercise common sense, especially on the more heavily populated islands of St. Thomas and St. Croix. Don't flash money around in public places or wear expensive jewelry. Avoid deserted or poorly lit areas after dark, such as parking lots or back streets of towns. Be careful whom you befriend (and how much you drink) in local bars. Be wary of pickpockets, and don't leave valuables in plain view—either in a car or on a beach.
In the U.S. Virgin Islands, the three main islands (St. Croix, St. John and St. Thomas) are among more than 50 islands and cays (most of them uninhabited) that make up the U.S. Virgin Islands. Situated about 1,200 mi/1,930 km southeast of Miami and 50 mi/80 km east of Puerto Rico, they are just a few miles/kilometers west of their cousins, the British Virgin Islands. St. Thomas and St. John are only 3 mi/5 km apart, bordered on the north by the Atlantic Ocean. St. Croix lies 40 mi/64 km to the south, surrounded by the Caribbean Sea. Wherever you decide to venture out, here are some great places to visit that are well known as, "Must See" or "Must Do". Relax. Enjoy. Have fun!
